Land of the Free...

...Unless you're opposing the homosexual agenda, that is. Virginia has a measure on the upcoming ballot that would enshrine in our state Constitution a definition of marriage, so as to place the issue beyond the reach of power-sodden judges who might find a "due process" or "equal protection" right to homosexual marriage in the Constitution. Not surprisingly, the usual suspects, fearing the democratic will of the people of Virginia, oppose this common-sense measure.

Not content with using the political process, the homosexualists have apparently co-opted big business to intimidate those who do not give obeisance to the homosexual agenda. Luis Padilla, an employee of Cargill, an international food processing company, was ordered to remove pro-marriage amendment decals and signs from his personal vehicle because Cargill found the message "offensive." When Padilla instead parked off the premises of the company but did not remove the offending bumper sticker, he was fired.

Why are we not surprised, since this goliath business boasts that "we are proud to have received a 100% rating in 2005 from the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index, which rates American businesses' treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees, consumers and investors."

Right, and a 0% rating from those who believe in free political discourse.

HT to Virginia For Marriage.

If we think about this, it does bring national attention to the need for a marriage amendment.

We need to include in that amendment, that the changing of English words, should not alter previously penned laws.

www.dictionary.com says:

wife - a woman joined in marriage to a man; a woman considered in relation to her husband; spouse.

wife - A woman joined to a man in marriage; a female spouse.

wife - a married woman; a man's partner in marriage

husband - a married man, esp. when considered in relation to his wife.

husband - A man joined to a woman in marriage; a male spouse.

husband - a married man; a woman's partner in marriage

That says it all.....

Homosexualists??? Pray tell, what the hell is a "homosexualist"?

Now, now, you know that a non-government employer has the right to limit political speech in the workplace. I think it's stupid, but that's the way it is.

I, too, would like to know what a "homosexualist" is.

A homosexualist is one who aggresively promotes increased recognition of and rights for the homosexual lifestyle. Kinda like this company, which seems to be more interested in promoting the homosexual-rights agenda than in considering the rights of its workers.

I agree in principle that an employer can make reasonable restrictions on the right to speech of employees... but this company fired the guy for keeping the message on his truck after he started parking off premises. An employer has no legitimate interest in your bumper sticker if you don't come on their property.

*shrugs* Hmmmm...well, I can honestly say I've never heard that term before. I guess I might be a homosexualist, then, albeit a straight homosexualist. Assuming, that is, that by "homosexual lifestyle," we're talking about things like being free to choose who to love and how to express that love. Sounds like kind of a scary, made-up word to me, designed, perhaps, to connote a group that is trying to force others to believe as they believe, to act as they act...like "fundamentalist" or "Islamist" or any number of other -ists. Though it seems to me that it's more about resisting being forced to act the way others demand.

But with the definition you gave...let's hear it for homosexualists! ;)

Honstly, though, I have always been confused about one thing...what exactly is the "homosexual lifestyle?" I mean, since we're defining the word "homosexualists" in terms of the "homosexual lifestyle," what exactly is that? It always sounds like such a monolithic term when the right bandies it about. Which seems odd, since I know many gays and lesbians, and I don't think there's any one "lifestyle" that I could pigeon-hole them into. Does just being gay or lesbian mean one is living the "homosexual lifestyle?" Or is there more to it than just who one chooses to love and have sex with?

There used to be a quaint but very workable understanding in our society that you could exercize your desire to commit sodomy in private with another consenting adult, and society would not actively seek to prevent you from that private activity, while publicly avowing, through its laws, customs, and traditions that sodomy is not a favored activity.

The homosexualists are those who set about to upset this workable arrangement and push the demands of the formerly private sodomists into the public mainstream and have them not simply tolerated, but accepted, embraced, affirmed, and protected by law, and now, they even want the majority to change the very definition of marriage to accomodate their formerly private vice.

Yes, sometimes a majority has a right to protect itself from a vocal, wealthy, well-connected, politically and legally savvy minority intent on changing institutions that have been around since, oh, the dawn of recorded civilization.
