Torture...

...could be defined as trying to have an intellectual discussion with self-styled defenders of the Faith, who are so obsessed with bashing George Bush that they will even rely on Wikipedia for source-material.

For anyone following these issues from over at Papa Shea's blog, you might find these postings of interest.

For my sins (and for knocking him silly on the issue of torture-- he's removed some of my comments), I have been excommunicated by Papa Shea, and banned from the Promised Land of his comboxes.

For which I am duly grateful.

Whoops, try her now. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your view) the bulk of my prior torture postings were dumped when I changed my URL.

Insanity can be defined as trying to reason with people like Shea who are so wedded to a particular ideology that he sees it as having binding magisterial import.

Even worse, the prominent Catholic apologetics establishment like Catholic Answers and the Catholic writers establishment like Fr, Neuhaus and Deal Hudson continue to aid and abett his calumny by continuing to promote him and by writing forwards to one of his books (as in the case of Fr. Neuhaus) and keep him on their speakers bureau (as in the case of Catholic Answers), and bring him on as a columnist on his web publication (as in the case of Deal Hudson with his Inside Catholic website) despite the fact they have been informed of Mark's libel against both Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

I think if anyone really wants to do something about Shea's conduct they will do what they can either by writing these organizations privately and/or mount public pressure to openly distance themselves from Shea until he repents of his conduct.

But arguing with Mark is a waste of time at best.

Shea has also been highly dismissive and basically insulting to those attached to the Traditional Latin Mass. He also has "the Mass is the Mass is the Mass" attitude. He lost his cool when I simply asked him whether a Black Mass was an okay Mass under his reasoning, and he presumed with no basis at all that I was saying that the Nervous Order was a Black Mass. I believe he cut me off sometime ago. Whatever ...
